Why chose laser hair removal?
Unwanted hair can be frustrating, time-consuming and expensive to manage. Whether you’re shaving every few days, dealing with ingrown hairs or simply looking for a longer-lasting solution, laser hair removal offers effective, long-term hair reduction.
At Face Oxford, we use the Motus AY laser, combining Alexandrite and Nd:YAG technology with innovative Moveo delivery. This allows us to treat a wide range of skin types comfortably while creating personalised treatment plans based on your skin tone, hair type and goals.
Every treatment begins with a consultation and patch test to ensure treatment is safe, suitable and tailored specifically to you. Our small, experienced team provides a highly personalised service, so your treatment is often delivered by the same practitioner throughout your course. We believe this continuity helps achieve excellent results while ensuring you feel comfortable and supported at every visit.

Laser hair removal works by delivering light energy into the pigment (melanin) within the hair follicle. The energy is converted into heat, which damages the follicle and reduces its ability to produce new hair.
Hair grows in cycles, and laser is only effective when hairs are in their active growth phase. As not all hairs are growing at the same time, several treatments are needed to achieve the best possible results.
Treatment times vary depending on the area being treated.
Small areas such as the upper lip may take only a few minutes, while larger areas such as full legs or back can take up to an hour. During your consultation we’ll provide an estimate based on the areas you’d like to treat.
Yes. Most people require a course of 6–8 treatments, spaced several weeks apart, although this varies depending on the treatment area, hair colour, skin type and any hormonal influences.
Hair usually becomes progressively finer, lighter and less dense throughout the course. Some people choose occasional maintenance treatments to maintain their results.
Your first appointment includes a consultation and patch test.
Before each treatment the area should be shaved (24 hours before) and cleaned. The laser handpiece is then moved continuously across the skin using Motus AY’s Moveo technology.
Most people describe treatment as feeling warm rather than painful. The integrated cooling system helps improve comfort throughout the procedure.
Temporary redness and mild swelling around the hair follicles are common and usually settle within a few hours.
Occasionally the skin may feel warm or sensitive for a day or two. We’ll provide full aftercare advice to help your skin recover comfortably and minimise the risk of complications.
A consultation and patch test are required before your first laser hair removal treatment. This allows us to assess your suitability, discuss your medical history and treatment goals, and ensure you don’t experience any unexpected reactions before booking your course.
Before treatment, you should avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and fake tan for at least 2 weeks. We also recommend stopping retinoids, AHAs and BHAs on the treatment area for 1 week beforehand. We’ll give you personalised preparation advice during your consultation.
Please shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment. If the area has not been shaved, we may need to reschedule your treatment or apply an additional charge, as shaving is not included within your appointment time.
The cost of laser hair removal depends on the area being treated. We offer treatments for both small and large areas, as well as discounted courses for the best value.

How to prepare your skin for Dermaplaning?
• Stop exfoliating: To ensure the skin is not damaged by over-exfoliation, discontinue all exfoliants, including AHAs, BHAs, enzymes, micro-beads, and retinoids for five to seven days.
• Skip the retinol and the sunbathing: If you’re currently using Retin-A, discontinue use for seven to fourteen days prior to the treatment. You should also avoid sun exposure for five to seven days prior to ensure you do not have a sunburn.
• Let your hair grow: Hair removal such as waxing, threading, and shaving should be avoided for at least two weeks before dermaplaning.
• If you breakout… In the event of active acne and raised lesions on the day of treatment, it’s best to reschedule until the skin is fully healed. There is also a six-month waiting period after Roaccutane.

Aftercare?
Your skin is able to absorb products more easily, so really a good skincare regime is recommended after dermaplaning. In addition, you will be more sensitive to UV light, so SPF 50 is essential.
Full aftercare instructions will be provided.
