Dermal Filler for Lips

Customised and Comprehensive

The aging process is associated with loss of volume in the skin, dehydration and the appearance of deep lines that are permanently visible on the face. This happens due to a loss of collagen and elastin and a slowing of the rate we produce these. As we age, we lose fat, muscle and bone and the skin thins. Dermal fillers have been used for decades to replace this lost volume. Dermal filler treatment involves having injections of hyaluronic acid (HA) to add volume and fill in wrinkles. It is a clear, gel like substance, that is naturally occurring in the skin. HA attracts water in the skin, which improves hydration as well as adding volume. HA can also be used to define and rejuvenate the face. Typical areas of treatment include cheeks, lips, lines around the mouth and the jawline.

What does the treatment feel like?

Fine needles are used to inject small amounts of the dermal filler into the specific areas discussed in your consultation. Most patients comment that the treatment is only mildly uncomfortable as a topical anaesthetic cream is applied prior to treatment. The dermal fillers we use also contain lidocaine (a local anaesthetic), allowing for you to remain comfortable throughout the treatment. Treatment will generally take around 30 minutes to perform, once your consent has been obtained and photos have been taken. Please allow a full hour for the full appointment.

Is it safe?

Like any medical intervention, there are risks that are associated with having a dermal filler treatment. Fortunately, many side effects are rare or very rare. As part of your consultation with us, you will be advised on these in more detail before you decide to proceed with any treatment. More commonly reported side effects, usually related to the procedure itself, are mild bruising or swelling of the skin, and are generally described as mild to moderate. You should plan your treatments around social events in case you do experience any effects that could affect your appearance, such as bruising.

You will be given full information about after care. You will be given Kat’s out of hours mobile telephone number, should you require any urgent advice. A two week follow up appointment is also advised to assess results.

Prices will be individually assessed and a full quote given during the consultation

Results are immediate, but you will see the full effects after around two weeks when any swelling usually subsides.

Prescription writing appointment with registered prescriber

15 mins – Deposit £50. This is required to secure the appointment and is redeemable against your treatment price.

How does it work?

Following a thorough consultation, there may be several treatment options that would be possible and these will be fully discussed with you at the time. A personalised treatment plan will be devised and risks and benefits will be explained to you so you can decide if treatment is right for you. You will also be assessed for your suitability for treatment. Common areas that can be treated are frown lines, horizontal lines on the forehead and crow’s feet.

What does the treatment feel like?

The procedure takes about 30 minutes, but leave yourself an hour to allow for paperwork to be completed. Numbing cream is used to reduce discomfort and treatment is administered with a very fine needle.

Prices will be individually assessed and a full quote given during the consultation

Improvements can usually be seen within 2-3 days, but full results are seen by 2-3 weeks. A follow up appointment will be offered at 2 weeks to review the results. Results last between 3-4 months, but you may see some recovery in movement after 8 weeks.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) with Microneedling

What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

This treatment is also known as the “vampire facial” or “dracula therapy” but do not let that put you off! Your blood is made up of a number of components, with 55% being plasma. This straw coloured liquid is rich in platelets, minerals and growth factors. These are all important in healing and repair. Using this liquid in combination with micro-needling helps skin to look and feel younger. As the plasma enters the skin, it stimulates collagen and elastin fibres to be produced. It is a clinically researched procedure that is effective for many years in sports injuries, wound healing, as well as in aesthetic treatments.

What is it used to treat?

• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Scars, including acne scarring and stretch marks
• Pigmentation
• Skin texture, to aid firmness and elasticity of the skin
• Hair loss/thinning
• Suitable for the under eye area

What does the treatment feel like?

After your consultation and consenting to the proceedure, you have a blood sample taken in the clinic. This blood is then put into a special machine called a centrifuge. This spins the blood and separates the plasma from the red blood cells. While you are waiting for this to happen, you will have numbing cream applied to your face to minimise any discomfort. People describe it as mildly uncomfortable, rather than painful.

The skin is then cleaned and prepped. Depending on your desired treatment, your plasma is then injected into the face or scalp, or used in conjunction with microneedling.

Are there any side effects?

All treatments carry a degree of risk, but they are minimal with this procedure as we use your own blood products. All risks and complications will be discussed with you at consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed. The main side effects would be redness, swelling and bruising or tenderness at injection sites. These are normal and usually subside after a few hours.

What is the recommended course?

Initial treatment is one per month for three months. After this, to maintain the results, you will need to repeat this every 6-12 months. This will depend on your skin condition and age and this will be discussed with you at consultation and upon review.

Can i use this in combination with other treatments?

Absolutely! For clients with a large amount of volume loss or wrinkling, combining this with other treatments may be advisable. Your individualised treatment plan will outline the best possible options, which will be put together after discussing all your needs.

Prices will be individually assessed and a full quote given during the consultation

As we are stimulating new cell growth, this is not immediate. You may see some improvement due to the micro-needling, but results of the PRP treatment will be seen at around a month.
