Wanting to get your skin to glow? Happy, healthy and radiant skin is a possibility, not just a dream!
Are you feeling like your skin is a bit dull and not looking it’s best? We’re all busy these days, but it is important to remember to make time for the simple things in life that can help restore your natural glow. Taking time for you is also an important #selfcare strategy that can help your overall #wellbeing
Whilst filters are fabulous and fun, we don’t walk around with a full-time filter option, so here are my top tips for beautiful skin, a clear complexion and a vibrant, radiant appearance! Then filters can be an addition, if you feel like them, rather than feeling like you just can be photographed without them.
Eat well
Your body and your skin need good quality food and nutrients to help it function properly. We all know what we should and shouldn’t eat, and if it’s takeaways or packaged meals most of the time for you, your body and your skin will show telltale signs. Eating a well-balanced diet can and will make all the difference.
Sleep well
There’s lots of research to say that clocking in approximately 7-9 hours of sleep per night does your body and your skin some serious good. Sure that may be asking for too much but even trying to get a few of these a week is always a good start towards healthy, glowing skin.
Stress less
One of the biggest barriers to good quality sleep is stress and high-stress levels can also lead to lots of other health problems. There are some really simple strategies to help you get better sleep. Try not looking at screens/your phone before bed and have your phone in another room if possible, try taking short breaks at work, try some mindfulness or meditation or exercise (see below). Read a book, listen to your favourite music, see your friends more-all these are also going to keep stress levels low. Look up sleep hygiene on the internet for more info and suggestions.
Exercise
Do you ever wonder why athletes look so radiant? Good blood flow helps delivers oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells and helps move debris away thus cleansing your skin from the inside. Obviously it has so many other health benefits as well, such as reducing stress and keeping your body and mind fit and healthy.
Exfoliate
Your skin cells regenerate approximately every 28 days but when they aren’t removed, they don’t offer the same reflective properties as healthy hydrated skin. Don’t overdo this and don’t use physical scrubs too often as they can become detrimental to your skin. If you’d like some suggestions for ways to do this, please let me know. A great option is to try a chemical exfoliator and add in some chemical peels to your routine. You can read all about chemical peels and why they are literally the bees knees for your skin here.
Keep hydrated and moisturise your skin
Keeping your body and skin hydrated is a big step towards a clear complexion. We could probably all do with drinking more, especially when it’s hot and we sweat more. Using a good moisturiser can help to keep your skin looking in tip-top condition and speaking to your skincare expert about how to improve your skin’s barrier so it retains moisture is a great idea. I’ve written a blog post all about this, explaining the difference between hydration and moisturising- you can read it here.
Keep Your Skin Clean
Cleansing your skin is über important for clear, radiant skin. Never sleep in your make up and ditch the wipes (see an older post for more info on why). Cleansing morning and night is so important to get rid of all the sebum, serums and creams, debris, makeup and pollution that gets onto it.
These tips will definitely put you on the right road towards healthy and radiant looking skin and will definitely pay off when you next catch your reflection in a shop window or someone takes a photo you weren’t expecting! Seriously, it’s time to get your skin to glow!
