I can’t tell you the number of times I have been asked about laser hair removal over the years. This year we invested in an amazing hair removal device that will replace all of those traditional, painful, time-consuming, and temporary ones that you may have tried.
There’s loads more to tell you, and some pretty amazing before and after photos to share as well so let’s dive straight in!
So let’s start with the first big question – what is laser hair removal technology?
Laser hair removal is a popular cosmetic procedure that uses laser technology to remove unwanted hair from various parts of the body. It is a safe and effective way to achieve long-lasting hair reduction without the need for regular shaving or waxing. Take a look at a few before and after images from people who have had this treatment.

How does it work?
The laser emits a gentle burst of energy that targets the melanin in the hair follicle, destroying it at its root. This means that not only will hair be removed, but it’s also stopped from growing back. We need to mention though that it isn’t life-long – that means that you may need to have top-up treatments in the months/years ahead as the hair can return.
Who does the treatment?

Meet Hazel!
Hazel joins Face Oxford with a wealth of experience in beauty and has a Level 3 NVQ. She’s been qualified for almost 20 years and is extremely passionate and knowledgeable. She’s a huge fan of laser technology, a very experienced laser therapist and is passionate about safely and effectively help us all to be hair-free, silky smooth and feeling confident!
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment time varies depending on the size of the area being treated. However, most sessions typically take between 15-45 minutes. If you are treating multiple areas, it will take longer.
Will I need a course of treatments?
Yes, multiple sessions are required to be completely hair-free.
We recommend an initial course of 6 sessions, however the number of treatments needed varies depending on your hair type, skin tone, and the area being treated. Maintenance sessions may also be required from time to time (as mentioned above).
You know that we always aim to be as transparent as possible though, and so this will be discussed with you during your initial consultation. After we have assessed the above variables, we will have a better idea of the likely number of treatments you will need.
What happens during the treatment?
During treatment, a cooling gel is applied to the area being treated to protect the skin and to help the laser penetrate the hair follicles. The laser device is then used to deliver a series of short pulses of light to the skin. The treatment can be uncomfortable, but the cooling gel helps to reduce any pain or discomfort.
Are there any possible side effects?
Laser hair removal is a safe and effective procedure when performed by a trained and experienced practitioner. All our practitioners are highly skilled and experienced. However, there are some risks associated with the procedure, including skin irritation, blistering, and changes in skin colour.
The Motus AY laser machine, which is the one that we have in the clinic, is safer and more effective for all skin types over other lasers, including darker skin tones, thanks to its unique Moveo technology. This feature allows for constant motion during treatment, delivering energy to the hair follicles without causing damage to surrounding skin.
Is there anything else I should know?
You must have a patch test before we can treat you. These are bookable via the website at £35 which is taken off the later cost of your treatment(s). If, as a result of the patch test, you are unable to go ahead with the treatment, this will be refunded to you.
Before your laser hair removal treatment, you MUST avoid sun exposure and self tan for at least two weeks before the treatment. You should also stop retinol, AHA’s and BHA’s if they feature in your skincare routine for a week before. But don’t worry – we will give you specific instructions during your consultation.
Please shave 24 hours before you attend your appointment. You may be charged extra, or refused treatment, if we have to shave you as this is not in our allocated treatment time.
After treatment, the treated area may be red and swollen for a few hours. It is important to avoid sun exposure and to apply a soothing lotion to the area. The treated hair will gradually fall out over the next few weeks.
How much does it cost?
Cost varies depending on body area that you would like treated. We offer 20% discount on courses of 6 treatments as well.
