Chances are you may have heard of this amazing little ingredient and may have had some experience with it in your own skincare products without realising it, even if in a tiny amount. If you have acne or breakout prone skin, this product is an absolute saviour.
So let’s delve into what it is and why it is so useful.
Salicylic acid is actually a beta hydroxy acid (BHA), which comes from the bark of the willow tree and is an excellent exfoliant and really useful in the treatment of acne.
Ever wondered why?
Well, salicylic acid is actually is oil soluble, which means that it can penetrate through the oils on our skin, getting down into pores to help chemically exfoliate dead skin cells that build up in acne. It helps to remove both the oil on the surface of our skin and also from the actual hair follicles. This means it is really useful in helping to control acne pimples. Another benefit is that it is anti-inflammatory as well, so when acne is really inflamed, red and sore it can help to reduce this effect.
This is all great, but want to know and even better way of adding this to your skincare regime?
Using an “encapsulated salicylic acid” means it is slow released over several hours, so can really get to work, rather than just for a few minutes in an unencapsulated formula. Impressive, right??!! There have been amazing results for clients using #alumiermd acne clarifying cleanser and acne balancing serum. They both have salicylic acid in them (along with lots of other lovely ingredients for acneic skins), with the serum having and encapsulated formula too.
