5 amazing things you need to know about skin peels…

Chemical peels have notoriously got a bad reputation, however, if you are looking to improve a skin condition, or you are just looking to gain beautiful, radiant and brightened skin, peels could be a wonderful addition to your skincare essentials.

Let me walk you through my top reasons why chemical peels could help you to love the skin you’re in…

1. Chemical peels are important for skin rejuvenation. They help to improve the radiance of the skin and are also used to treat skin conditions such as acne, wrinkles and fine lines, pigmentation, photo-damage and rosacea. Results can be seen with a single peel, in terms of radiance and skin brightening, but for the conditions mentioned above repeated treatments over 8-12 weeks will be required.

2. After a full skin assessment with me, we will decide upon a hyper customised treatment protocol to work on your specific skin concerns. During your peel, a specific combination of acids is applied to your skin-the “chemical” bit refers to the changes that happen at a cellular level within your skin. Peels work by changing the pH of the skin, loosening connections between dead skin cells. They can also help to normalise lipid production (important for acne) and the rate at which dead skin cells are turned over (this is super important in managing things like ageing, where this is slowed down, or psoriasis where it is massively sped up).

3. Peels result in exfoliation and regeneration of the skin, which improves skin texture and tone. This exfoliating effect also stimulates collagen =big win! When peels are performed regularly, the skin becomes used to the process and will begin to rejuvenate again, like younger skin.

4. Peels can be superficial, medium or deep. The deeper the peel, the longer the downtime and potential for complications. Superficial to medium peels, like the ones used at Faceoxford are safe and well-tolerated, with only mild sensation and erythema (redness of the skin). AlumierMD peels are meant for repeated, progressive treatments, this means building your results slowly to prevent the side effects of more aggressive approached.

5. Home care is essential-these can help prepare your skin for a peel and then help settle the skin after and maximise the results. They can also help to support the development and maintenance of beautiful skin. All clients are given complimentary post-procedure kits after a peel.
